Coffee-The Healthy Way

COFFEE the right wayGOOD NEWS for you coffee-lovers! I veer from my usual articles with this by Dr. Sharnael Wolverton.

“Doctors have been warning patients for years about the negative health effects of drinking coffee. Yet, over 50% of Americans have continued to drink this delicious beverage on a daily basis (and often in mass quantities)! The truth is… many popular coffee brands (and coffee beverages at coffee shops) are loaded with pesticides, mold, artificial ingredients, and hidden refined sugars. However, drinking coffee doesn’t have to bad for you and it doesn’t have to be boring either! Here are few of the health benefits when you drink your coffee the right way:

  • Enhanced speed, intensity, and endurance of workouts
  • May increase metabolism and burn fat
  • Increases beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract
  • High in antioxidants (which may decrease risk of certain cancers)
  • Lowers blood glucose level
  • Lowers rates of age-related cognitive decline

Check out this detailed list of the therapeutic health benefits of coffee by Dr. Mercola.

Always Choose Organic:

Unfortunately, coffee beans are one of the most heavily pesticide sprayed crops in the world! Always choose coffee beans that are certified Organic. There are also coffee brands that are low in acidity. It is best to purchase whole beans and grind them yourself to get the most benefit and to avoid rancid coffee.

Drink it Black or Bullet-Proof:

It is most beneficial to drink your coffee black or bullet proof (see recipe below). Here are some additional helpful guidelines to keep your coffee healthy:

  1. Keep it to a minimum. One or two cups per day is best.
  2. Avoid adding artificial sweeteners and refined sugars.
  3. Avoid artificial creamers. Use organic coconut milk, almond milk, or hemp milk instead.
  4. Add Cinnamon to your coffee for even higher antioxidant content and to help balance blood sugar levels.
  5. Eat before you drink your coffee to avoid a blood sugar “crash.”
  6. Add Collagen to your coffee. Collagen (found in good bone broths) is rich in the amino acid glycine, and has been scientifically studied to help reduce joint pain, aid in healthy tissue repair, and may help inflammation stay within a healthy range.
  7. Add grass-fed butter to your coffee for a brain-boosting buzz. Coffee can cause anxiousness and upset stomach when taken without a healthy fat so adding grass-fed butter or cold-pressed coconut oil helps prevent those negative side-effects.
  8. Add cold-pressed coconut oil. Similar to grass-fed butter, coconut oil is loaded with healthy fats, specifically medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which have been shown to improved weight loss in multiple scientific studies. Coconut oil is well-known for many health benefits including brain health!

Try Bullet Proof Coffee!

  • 1 cup Organic high quality coffee (mold and pesticide free!)
  • 1-3 teaspoons cold-pressed coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon organic grass-fed unsalted butter (or ghee for non-dairy)
  • 1/8 teaspoon organic vanilla extract-optional
  • A few drops of Stevia-optional

Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix on high for 15-30 seconds! Enjoy!”

Change Begins On The Inside: It’s ALL About You!

Realize what POW-er you have and how to use it…

“Did you know that every time you talk about an unhealed wound or trauma, you re-activate it in your emotional, spiritual, and physical bodies? As you speak, or even think, about an old issue, you experience it as if it is happening right now. Since your subconscious mind does not know the difference between current experience and past memory, for all intents and purposes, the trauma or negative experience is happening now…emotions-frequency

Unfortunately, when an issue is re-activated, instead of using it as a healing opportunity, many of us react by pushing the wounds down with numbing substances like food, drugs, internet, Facebook, TV, and a long list of other distractions.

Unhealed issues get stored in the body, until we release them. The body obliges as a storehouse for emotional wounds but it does take its toll, especially if issues are accumulated for long periods of time. Storing wounds in the body eventually weakens the body and invites illness and disease, as well as causing depression…The good news is that the body is ready to release issues, the moment you are.

When an unhealed issue is re-activated, don’t just push it down – take the time to finally heal it. This means creating intentional space to [FEEL] your emotions and allow the issue to process through to Healing. Once you allow yourself to fully experience these emotions for the first time, without resistance, you will innately know what path to healing is right for you.

Wounds are meant to be healed. We are not meant to spend our lives carrying around past issues and hurts.…

Wounds want to be healed and issues want to be released, but you have the last say. None of this can happen until you are ready and willing.

You are meant to be free and clear of emotional burdens. You are meant to live a limitless life with an abundance of love and creativity. You are meant to stand on the mountain top with arms stretched wide – willing to receive your grandest dreams. The Universe is listening.” –Nanice Ellis, Contributing Writer for Wake Up World

Emotional Wholeness Effects Physical Health

I’ve written 2 books (click their images for previews/purchase) of my journey to emotional wholeness. I w-a-s a blend of Elsa and Olaf! But, since I’ve ramped up my avenues for wholeness, it truly is a wonderful life! I’m not certain I would have appreciated it without the bumps-in-the-night.

The emphasis in my walking years was my body: its natural athletic abilities and its appearance. I was a model and beauty pageant wins paid for college tuition. But, after my spinal cord injury, I wouldn’t look at my reflection in full mirrors, glass doors, and windows. It was part of my denial.

IF ONLY we can see our body as God views it! He loves our flesh. Remember, He created it as a container for, and means to, spirit. On this side of eternity, our body IS God’s grace by which to learn and know Him. Shouldn’t we?

The irony: our body houses, and reflects, who we believe we are and how we feel about others.

Thanks but NO THANKS! I will not bring illness and inadequacy upon myself.

Hurt Verses Pain

As I was peeling the dried, flakey skin from an onion, I thought of its similarities to our life experiences.

In adulthood, we tend to nonchalantly peel away and heedlessly disregard recurring emotional episodes. Because it’s just the way things are, they’re predictable (by us and those around us) and accepted as routine. We fail to question why we, or they, repeatedly flake out! If a sliced onion regrew dehydrated skin overnight, wouldn’t you wonder?! And, if you think about it, it’s not until you pull off the silicone-like protective under skin and slice into the onion’s crisp flesh that its fresh juices flow…as do your tears.

Unless we wake up and consciously seek the sources of our “inflammatory” buttons, we’ll keep sloughing random emotions, never realizing the deep unconscious pains being triggered.

Food Facts-Don’t Be Fooled

Okay. I’m bothered by this GMO (genetically modified organism) business. I’m just as concerned that most of us haven’t a clue what’s in our food…besides what it appears to be! Especially those dealing with other health issues. This article is by Robin Mather from “Mother Earth News” (October/November 2012) It’s not recent, but it’s still accurate.

Do you know that the average supermarket is full of genetically modified foods? Well, here’s how you can avoid those products:

“In the United States, 70 percent or more of the foods in your supermarket directly or indirectly contain genetically modified (GM) ingredients. The illustration below shows how prevalent GM foods have become on grocery store shelves.

The only way to avoid GM food is to know which ingredients are likely to be genetically modified and read labels carefully, or to always choose organic foods, which are certified GM-free.

Below are estimates of the percentages of GM foods found on store shelves. To learn more about this issue, see The Threats From Genetically Modified Foods.

PHOTO GMO FOODS

(llustration By Barry T. Fitzgerald )

Dairy/Eggs. Unless it’s labeled organic or rBST-free, everything in the dairy case, including milk, cheese and yogurt, probably contains milk from cows injected with rBST, a GM hormone used to make cows give more milk. It’s also likely that the cows and chickens were fed GM corn, soy and canola.

Meat. GM corn and soy are so dominant in the United States that almost everything in the meat case comes from animals fed GM crops.

Fresh Produce. Not many GM items yet, but GM sweet corn arrived in 2012.

Cereals. Unless labeled as organic, cereals probably include GM ingredients, primarily high-fructose corn syrup and other corn products, soy and milk proteins. Don’t be fooled by “natural” labels; they mean nothing.

Cookies/Snacks/Chips. Almost all include high-fructose corn syrup; soy, corn or canola oil; soy lecithin and other soy isolates; or other additives derived from GM corn and soy.

Pasta/Rice/Beans. You’re pretty safe here, because wheat, rice and beans are not (yet) genetically modified, but watch out for the heat-and-eat pasta meals that include GM ingredients.

Ice Cream/Frozen Prepared Meals. Unless labeled organic, these are virtually guaranteed to have GM ingredients, including corn and soy products, whey protein from rBST milk, and GM beet sugar.

Oils/Fats/Shortening. Olive oil is non-GM. “Vegetable oil” usually is GM, as are corn, soybean and canola oil. Solid shortenings are hydrogenated canola, corn and soybean oil.

Condiments/Prepared Foods. All of these items contain GM soy, corn and/or canola unless labeled organic.

Bread/Crackers. Almost all commercial bread is made with corn syrup and soy-based ingredients.”

Don’t Worry. Be Happy

Photo Tiny and friendIf you cannot agree with others, you can at least refrain from quarreling with them.

“When involved in a dispute with someone…it may be the only time doing nothing is better than doing something….When you quarrel with others—even if you win the argument—you place a great deal of unnecessary stress upon yourself. It is impossible to maintain a Positive Mental Attitude when you allow negative emotions, such as anger or hate, to dominate your thoughts. No one can upset you or make you angry…unless you allow them to do so.

Instead of arguing with others, try asking nonthreatening questions, such as:

“Why do you feel this way?

What have I done to make you angry?

What can I do to help?”

You may find that the entire situation has resulted from a simple misunderstanding that can be quickly rectified. Even if problems are more serious, your positive behavior will go a long way toward helping resolve them.” –Law of Attraction/Motivation quote

Don’t Stay Stuck

Whether disabled or able-bodied, discovering the direction/focus for your lives, your dreams, and your career is different for each of us. The answer can only be found in a deep soul search. “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” (Proverbs 25:2). Don’t stay stuck! The tragedy that beset Robin Williams is another wake-up call. Seek solutions. Seek help.

After coming to grips with my physical changes and limitations and, psychologically, learning to view my wheelchair as my chariot (http://booklocker.com/books/6235.html  Views From My Chariot) my emotional journey to wholeness began. It wasn’t wholly in finding adjustment to my disability; I realized there were unresolved issues from my childhood and early adulthood. In retrospect, here’s where my wheels truly hit the road.

A quote from Brene Brown…

“Dr. Shelley Uram, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist, explains that most of us think of traumatic events as big events (like wrecks and disasters). But, Dr. Uram points out that we tend not to recognize the small, quiet traumas that often trigger the same brain-survival reaction.

After studying Dr. Uram’s work, I believe it’s possible that many of our early shame experiences, especially with parents and caregivers, were stored in our brains as traumas. That is why we often have such painful bodily reactions when we feel criticized, ridiculed, rejected, and shamed.

Dr. Uram explains that the brain does not differentiate between overt, or big trauma, and covert, or small, quiet trauma—it just registers the event as a threat that we can’t control.” ~Brene Brown

Relative to our emotional, mental, and spiritual states, studies show that our brains emit specific brain wave frequencies. In agreement with Brene Brown, Kari Browning states:

“Any number of things can affect our frequencies and cause them to become out of tune, such as stress or a traumatic experience. Just as a guitar needs to be tuned from time to time, our body is the same way. Your body can be tuned to achieve optimal physical balance.

PHOTO Quote BRAIN Music activates entire brain

For instance, tapping two tuning forks will instantaneously alter your body’s biochemistry and bring your nervous system, muscle tone and organs into harmonic balance. In seconds, your body enters a deep state of relaxation.

We are constantly being vibrated, on a cellular level, by heard and unheard sound frequencies. Our emotions also have frequencies. Toxic emotions can get trapped on a cellular level and lower our overall body frequency. Disease results when a part of our body begins to vibrate out of harmony with the rest.

If you’re interested in learning about using the natural healing methods of essential oils, sound, and frequency for your spirit, soul and body to come into a place of wholeness, make reservations for our upcoming seminar on Saturday, October 3 in Northport, Alabama. Think Healthy Thoughts

For me, minoring in psychology was like a baby rocking on its stomach to strengthen its back muscles to walk. It was my foundation for counseling, something I see as strengthening others (myself included) to “walk” into wholeness. Becoming a certified counselor through Elijah House gave me the tools for transformationvisualization, going back to childhood (even back to the womb) to discover root problems, in order to make changes in the present.

BUT, the eyes can’t see what the heart can’t hear. I wasn’t totally there. Gracious Holy Spirit continued to illumine my darkness.

A few years after my certification, I read Dr. Thomas Verny’s book, The Secret Life of the Unborn Child. Epiphanies sparked. This was after I had released the hope of motherhood. Previously, I had re-married to have children. At forty, there was a trauma that caused premature menopause.

God chose to stubble burn that field, and replant. Then, my mind was fertile to conceive God’s idea for my healing. Dr. Verny gave me a vocabulary for my, until then, unconscious perceptions.

You know that I don’t apologize for my unconventional avenues in seeking God and wholeness. So, anything I say that ruffles your spiritual beliefs, just place them on a shelf for future reference. This has been my habit for years. Time and again, I take to blowing dust off a few. This is one of those:

With my permission, a counselor took a walk through my spirit. (He is the only person I know gifted in doing this!) It’s sort of like a guided tour. Holy Spirit showed him what I needed to know about my spirit and heart, at that time.

There are some things he saw that I still don’t understand. But, one thing he saw, or didn’t see, has been the path of God’s breadcrumbs. He couldn’t find my heart. Nope. He couldn’t find it. That was around fifteen years ago.

Thus far, there’s been a lot of demolition. I had locked my heart behind so many doors with fortified walls that even I couldn’t find it. That’s why I said Dr. Verny gave me a vocabulary for my…“unconscious perceptions:” beliefs I formed from my mother’s thoughts, insecurities, and fears…while I was in her womb.

Know that your thoughts create your reality. Their energy draws the experiences to you.

If you’re scratching your head, if this sounds “far-out,” Karol K. Truman’s Feelings BURIED ALIVE NEVER DIE…is the “TREK” for you. It’s a book illumining why feelings trigger our choices and behavior, moment to moment, day to day, year after year.

The first step is grasping your diagnosis of unconsciousness. Severity varies from person to person. A lifetime of unawareness, suppression, and denial affects us all, as does a closed heart.

When writing HOW TO BE THE BEST YOU http://booklocker.com/books/6811.html , it was through the veil of my, then, present consciousness. Ever’ so often, I pick it up to reference something I’ve forgotten. Only a year after publishing it, I’m amazed at where I was headed—to my present consciousness, light years away from then. Before the above books, I think it can offer you a place to start.

The good news: You don’t have to wonder why you don’t see the forest for the trees, just look for green. You’ll find your path. Remember: green is the color for new beginnings, life, and love.
