Unfortunately, when an issue is re-activated, instead of using it as a healing opportunity, many of us react by pushing the wounds down with numbing substances like food, drugs, internet, Facebook, TV, and a long list of other distractions.

Unhealed issues get stored in the body, until we release them. The body obliges as a storehouse for emotional wounds but it does take its toll, especially if issues are accumulated for long periods of time. Storing wounds in the body eventually weakens the body and invites illness and disease, as well as causing depression…The good news is that the body is ready to release issues, the moment you are.

When an unhealed issue is re-activated, don’t just push it down – take the time to finally heal it. This means creating intentional space to [FEEL] your emotions and allow the issue to process through to Healing. Once you allow yourself to fully experience these emotions for the first time, without resistance, you will innately know what path to healing is right for you.

Wounds are meant to be healed. We are not meant to spend our lives carrying around past issues and hurts.…

A Cool Ride

Whether for a Spinal cord injury (SCI), neurological disease or degeneration, this is the best wheelchair I’ve seen! I LOVE THIS!

I had a Swiss-made LEVO that stood me. It functioned as a regular wheelchair, AND as my legs in its up position—for standing in church or a wedding, weight bearing, to retrieve or replace dishes/food/clothing, etc.. It didn’t move until I lowered the seat back to sitting position. Unlike this snappy (almost) all-purpose wheelchair, its tires remained locked and stationary when standing.

But, I was at eye level!

Happy Spring!

Here in the South, spring has sprung. I’m not really referring to it, although it REALLY IS the first day of Spring; nor do I mean when the crocus press through frozen earth or peek through a late snow. I’m talking about the two weeks when pollen shifts over EVERYTHING! Pollen 2Rolling over its yellow stickiness, my chariot leaves tracks, and transports its tracks, all over my house.

Yes, yellow is in my top five fav colors, but this is taking it too far. Although, I find cleaning up spilled turmeric leaves l-o-n-g-e-r-l-a-s-t-i-n-g yellow stains on my finger nails! It looks like nicotine stain…on all ten! My solution: I’m wearing fingernail polish until my nails grow out…for the second time!

My consolation that Spring has sprung in her mellow yellowness: my drive-through shower.

Recently, I was asked what accessories I’ve added to my wheelchairs to make them look cool…well…better.

At first (at 28 years of age), I just sat in it. My looks, pretty much, took the attention away from my red wheelchair. For a while, I even had an ahooga horn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRMjoURjI9k

As I matured, I chose a beige wheelchair…not to compete with my stylish, colorful clothes, and jeweled barefoot sandals.

At middle-age, my amazing smile blinded passersby of my black wheelchair.

In my older years, it’s the groans, bone pops, and whoopie cushion noises that draw curiosity.

Emotional Wholeness Effects Physical Health

I’ve written 2 books (click their images for previews/purchase) of my journey to emotional wholeness. I w-a-s a blend of Elsa and Olaf! But, since I’ve ramped up my avenues for wholeness, it truly is a wonderful life! I’m not certain I would have appreciated it without the bumps-in-the-night.

The emphasis in my walking years was my body: its natural athletic abilities and its appearance. I was a model and beauty pageant wins paid for college tuition. But, after my spinal cord injury, I wouldn’t look at my reflection in full mirrors, glass doors, and windows. It was part of my denial.

IF ONLY we can see our body as God views it! He loves our flesh. Remember, He created it as a container for, and means to, spirit. On this side of eternity, our body IS God’s grace by which to learn and know Him. Shouldn’t we?

The irony: our body houses, and reflects, who we believe we are and how we feel about others.

Thanks but NO THANKS! I will not bring illness and inadequacy upon myself.

It’s a Miracle, Really!

Recently, a writer/friend, Jim Croft, was encouraging us to: “Obey God by following your passion for ministry.” I ditto that! God’s heart (our passion/calling) will flow from our blessed niche.

One of my “flows” is when writing. As thoughts and concepts pour, it seems like there’s a different person in my head. Well, it sort of is…and isn’t, but I’m mindfully, prayerfully, transitioning into the whole, which is the point of this musing: to be all that I am, all of the time. To get there, I need to go to miracles. (You understand my trails, so mentally bookmark “to be all that I am, all of the time.”)

We miss miracles, every day, because we’re preoccupied with the next thing, distracted from the present, “(un)able to understand what is happening around…;”unperceiving. But, when we’re actively “awake,” looking for them, here’s what can happen:

My regular hairstylist (across the street) was out of town, so I called another for a home visit. She was on vacation, but said she would be available to me on a certain day.

After our meet-and-greet, I instructed her to layer my hair in the back—to give volume to my flat back-of-the-head (my mother was really busy and didn’t remember, or didn’t know, to re-position my head during sleep in infancy). She informed me of her healing ministry, and with my permission, started laying her hands A-L-L over my head, feeling, praying, waiting.

For an hour, we ooh and aahed at God moving my skull. I could feel heat and tingling as it expanded, rounded, even smoothed out the bumpy 100-stitch boomerang scar—from the hairline of my right temple, up the temporal bone, around to the parietal and down 2-3 inches. (Since my wreck/SCI injury, I’ve had to part my hair on the left, so that my hair fullness would fall over/conceal the slight concave of my right parietal area.)

Prior to my calling her, she knew of my disability. Although she was on vacation, and doesn’t normally do house calls, she was awake to her ministry, and perceptive to God’s desire to pour out His love on me. She made herself available.

Back to me, “to be all that I am, all of the time.” Several times she cupped her hands around the upper sides of my head—the parietal lobes where words are transferred into thoughts (the mass of my scar). When she prayed for the correction of my faulty skull DNA, I asked for cellular repair!

In my July 2nd “Cyndex,” I confessed to disrupted synapses. Not only is my head now wonderfully round, but I’m also expecting fluidity in my expressions!!!

God LOVES to confound the “wise” with “foolish” things. (I Corinthians 1:27)

AFFIRM: “Lord, use me today. I’m available. Awaken my sleeping ears and slumbering spirit. My soul thirsts for You.”

Be A Friend to Yourself

Did you know that in fetal development the heart forms and starts beating BEFORE the brain is developed?

And, did you know that the heart sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart? Hmmm.

If you’re wound tight trying to stay in control of minutia, pause, close your eyes, take a long deep breath, and slowly exhale. Listen for and feel your heart.

Say, “Thank you.”

Earthing: Barefootin’s Benefits

Okay, spring is here. We may still have some temperature dips, but this is a Health Alert about going barefoot; not that it’s bad for you. This is an announcement that it’s good for you!

I remember the good ol’ days when it was acceptable to go barefoot. In fact, my shoes (and books) remained where they were flung after hopping off the school bus on my way to shimmy up a pear tree or climb to the top of the barn! Shoes were an encumbrance to my speed and a major impedance to my climbing skills. And as important: my feet needed to breathe!

The benefits of barefootin’ was the topic of this month’s newsletter, “Chariot Notes,” that went out this past Wednesday.  For those of you not on my mailing list, here’s a smattering…and then some.

Since the invention of plastics in the 60’s, there’s been an increase of inflammation-related health disorders. We moved from leather-soled shoes, and wooden floors, to synthetic-soled shoes, synthetic carpets, and linoleum, which left our bodies depleted of electrons! Our autoimmune systems have become compromised. “Earthing,” or walking barefoot, reduces oxidative stress.

The earth naturally carries a negative ionic charge, so when we are grounded with the earth, free radicals are neutralized in your body. It has been proven that negative ions not only detoxify and calm the body, but also reduce stress and inflammation.

A second benefit is reflexology. Because there are reflex points corresponding to every organ in the body on the soles of our feet, barefooting offers a free reflexology session…helping to relieve what ails ya’. If there’s initial tenderness, it will subside as your body adjusts.

In addition, going barefoot offers a dual reprieve from a fast-paced lifestyle. First, you’re out-and-away from business, taking an opportunity to unwind. At the same time, you must be present, giving attention to where you step, living in the moment. And, research has proven a 62% decrease in anxiety and depression, increasing those feel-good endorphins. Simply quieting the mental chatter relaxes the mind, body, and spirit.

Whether walking in the grass, on the bare earth, or in the sand, connect with Mother Nature, and her Creator. Feel the warm sunshine on your face. Smell the flowers. Listen to the wind in the trees, and the bird’s enchanting songs. How wondrous are our senses!

Even now, I go barefoot from April through October. Maybe I can’t pound the earth with my feet, but I can prop them up on rocks, or tree roots, while I tune in to earth’s harmony and commune with my Father. Sometimes, I even extend my legs and slide down in my chair just to feel the cool grass under my toes.

Remember, I’m from Tennessee. You can take the country bumpkin out of Tennessee, but you can’t take the country bumpkin-ness out of this Tennessean.
